Fuel Mix Information FAQs
What does it mean?
The fuel mix information details how the electricity we supply you with has been generated in the previous year from each fuel source – such as coal, natural gas, renewable and nuclear energy – and compares ScottishPower’s fuel mix with the average for the UK. If you are on our Green H2O tariff, we match the amount of electricity you use with a supply of clean, green hydro-power into the electricity grid.
What is it for?
The information on our fuel sources and their environmental impact is designed to help you make an informed choice about your energy supplier. Similar information will be published by suppliers across Europe, in much the same way as emission levels are quoted for new cars.
Why haven't you published this information until now?
ScottishPower publishes its fuel mix by source every year in our Environmental Performance Report. This can be downloaded from our website at www.scottishpower.com. The report, published annually in October, gives an in-depth account of our environmental performance across a whole range of issues.
Will your fuel mix stay the same or change?
Our fuel mix will gradually change. Last year we acquired two new efficient gas-fired power stations and began operation of another new windfarm. We have the largest wind energy development programme of any UK supplier, so more energy will be supplied from renewable sources in future as further windfarms are built. At present, the amount of renewable energy we supply is significantly higher than the UK average.
