Have the work done by one of Santander’s trusted suppliers, including ScottishPower. The work must be completed at the property address of your existing Santander mortgage or Santander personal current account.

Following your solar panel installation, you'll get an email from ScottishPower requesting your final payment. Make sure you complete the borrowing options section if you borrowed money from Santander to pay for this. We'll then let Santander know to confirm your eligibility to get your cashback.

According to the Energy Savings Trust, all property types are suitable for an air source heat pump install.

It’s always worth checking in advance with your local planning office, however generally across England, Wales and Scotland heat pump installs are classed as ‘permitted developments’, which means you’re allowed to add them to your home without planning permission. However, there are some building regulation considerations to be aware of, including rules for installation within conservation areas, and compliance with Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) or equivalent planning standards. We’ll ensure that all of these requirements are included in your proposal.

Other factors that impact whether an air source heat pump may be suitable include:

Whether you’re the homeowner – you can only install them in a rented property if you have the express permission of the landlord.
The space you have available to install it – a small domestic air source heat pump’s dimensions would typically be around 100 cm (h) x 100 cm (w) x 40 cm (d), ranging up to 150 cm (h) x 115 cm (w) x 45 cm (d). Plus, there should be good space for air circulation around it. We’ll also take care of the regulations regarding the distance from neighbouring properties through our survey and design process.
The more energy efficient your home is, the more suited it will be to an air source heat pump. This is due to the fact that air source heat pumps provide a more constant, lower temperature hot water flow through the heating system in comparison to a boiler, which are typically set-up to provide hotter temperature water flow by burning gas. A 'low-temperature heating system' doesn’t mean the property is cold, more that your chosen comfortable temperature is reached while only having a relatively cool heating system which is why a well-insulated home helps. Typically, in order to receive funding, any recommended insulation measures on your Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) should also be carried out where suitable.
It’s also important to get distribution network operator (DNO) approval. The DNO is responsible for ensuring the electrical grid in your area is suitably sized to accommodate the connection of the air source heat pump. We manage this process on your behalf along with registering your air source heat pump install too.

A fully installed heat pump typically costs between £10,500 to £16,500 with 0% VAT. However, this can vary based on the size and complexity of the install and if any other energy efficiency measures, such as insulation, are required.

The good news is that financial support is available in Scotland through Home Energy Scotland, which offers a grant of £7,500 (with an additional £1,500 for households in rural Scotland). In England and Wales, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme is available, which provides a £7,500 grant towards your system. Both schemes have their own eligibility criteria and conditions apply, which our team can discuss with you.
