Enhance the energy efficiency of your home to reduce your bills and save money. The Great British Insulation Scheme delivers installation of energy efficiency measures to a wide pool of households in the least energy efficient homes.
If your house is well insulted, you can enjoy a warmer living environment while avoiding issues related to dampness. Well insulated homes will have a decrease in energy consumption, as less energy is needed to heat your home. This leads to lower carbon emissions and reduce bills.
The main objective of the ECO4 program is to offer support to people living in homes with poor EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) ratings who qualify for specific benefits. Its primary goal is to implement energy efficient improvements to the whole house.
The GBIS primarily focuses on installing a single cost-effective measure, predominantly cavity wall or loft installation. To support your measure, you might be asked to make a financial contribution. The installer will determine if it will be free or provide you an estimated amount of what you may need to pay. GBIS is open to homeowners who don't claim any benefits, and eligibility is determined based on the Council Tax band of the property.
There are two groups of people who are eligible for GBIS.
The general group which applies to houses falling within Council Tax bands A-D in England, A-E in Scotland and A-E in Wales and with an EPC rating of D, E, F or G.
If you're unsure of your EPC rating and live in Scotland, you can check your property at the Scottish EPC register website , if your home is in England or Wales you can check you EPC using the GOV UK site.
The other eligible group is the low-income group. The criteria relies on your home having a EPC rating of D, E, F or G and you must be receiving a benefit from the list in the link below.
Once your application confirms your eligibility, our installer partner will contact you to address any questions and arrange either an in person or online home survey.
Based on the survey results, our installer partner will determine if you qualify for GBIS funding for energy-efficient home improvements. Our partner will discuss the available options to enhance your home through GBIS.
Once you're happy with the proposed updates, you can coordinate with our installer partner to schedule the upgrade for your home. Then they will provide you with detailed information about the updates and the installation process.
If you don't meet the eligibility criteria for the GBIS scheme, there may be other grant options that you can explore.
