A smart meter allows you to monitor your energy use and make small changes that can lead to savings. Unlock a range of offers and rewards, like Half-Price Weekends[1] and smart tariffs[2].
Get access to exclusive smart tariffs and offers[2] which could help reduce your bills.
Take control of your energy use with near real-time information.
You can submit readings if you like, or just relax and let your smart meter do it for you.[2]
You can access Energy Insights[2] – a tool that helps you control and reduce your energy usage.
A smart meter gives you instant access to a range of tariffs and money saving offers[2]. For example, by becoming a Power Saver[1] you can enjoy half-price electricity[4] every Saturday and Sunday between 11am and 4pm. And by moving some of your electricity use to these times, you’ll also be doing your bit to balance demand on the grid and make the most of renewable energy.
A smart meter is an advanced version of a traditional gas/electricity meter that automatically sends us readings either half-hourly, daily or monthly.[3] If you prefer, you can still submit your own readings, it's up to you. As we move towards a greener future, traditional energy meters are being phased out and smart meters are being installed in homes across Great Britain at no extra cost to customers.
To begin with, John fought against getting a smart meter. But, since seeing how it has transformed his energy use, he's convinced others of the benefits of having one.
A smart meter gives you access to our Energy Insights tool[2] in the ScottishPower App. Energy Insights provides a detailed breakdown of your usage (in kWh and £s) by category, so you can identify areas in your home that are using the most energy. You can use this information to pinpoint changes you could make to cut down on your usage and save on your bills.

Electricity used will be charged at your normal unit rate and you will later have your bill credited for the energy you used. The credit is calculated as half of your electricity unit rate (excluding VAT) and will show as ‘Power Saver Credit’ on your bill. Your daily standing charge will be paid at your normal rate. See Terms and Conditions.

The savings value presented is based on a 5% reduction in gas and electricity use for a customer on a tariff covered by Ofgem’s energy price cap, who pays by Direct Debit, with Ofgem’s average annual energy usage for a typical household in Britain (2,700kWh single rate electricity & 11,500kWh gas use) prior to using the Energy Insights tool. We refer to a 5% reduction in energy use as this represents the average energy savings made by a sample of customers who had a smart meter installed and provided consent to sharing half hourly smart meter data and used the Energy Insights tool at least 3 times between May to July 2021 and May to July 2022.
