Electric Vehicle (EV) Home Charger Support
When it comes to charging your EV at home, we aim to provide everything you need to go electric - including your EV home charger, nationwide installation by an approved installation partner and cheaper EV home charging with our EV Saver tariff or EV Optimise.
Looking to take the first step and install an EV home charger? This page gives you relevant information all about EV home charger installation.
It should take around four hours to have an EV charger installed at your home. If our installers are unable to complete the installation on the day because of supply related problems or unexpected additional works, then they will reschedule the installation.
Our installation partner will fit the charging point to a brick or a plaster wall, or to another suitable permanent structure. Remember that to get a charger installed, you’ll need dedicated off-street parking, and the charging cable can’t cross any public footpaths or access ways.
We don’t recommend installing your EV charger yourself. If you buy an EV charger from ScottishPower, installation by an experienced professional is included in the cost.
To allow the installation to go smoothly, you should:
Our approved installation partner will carry out the installation of your home EV charger as well as any previously agreed non-standard additional works. During the installation, they will turn off your electricity for a short time to connect it to the main supply. They will also show you how to use the EV home charger and its associated app.
A non-standard EV home charger installation is one where additional works* are required that are not included as part of our standard installation offer, or where the installation is to be performed in a property that is located in a rural area or on an island. If you would like your EV home charger to be connected to solar panels, then we would also class this is a non-standard installation.
*Examples of additional works are equipotential gas / water / oil pipe bonding, EV Charger supply cable runs that are greater that 15m from the incoming electricity supply point to the EV Charger installation point, cable runs that go underfloor boards and external ground works.
Our installation partner will identify if any additional work is required during your online survey and where it is possible for them to complete the work, provide a quote for any costs. Please note that we do not complete ground works and solar panel connection is not guaranteed.
If you want to proceed with any additional works you will have to pay the installer directly. If you cancel within 14 days, we will refund your payment. Cancellation after 14 days may incur a cancellation fee of up to £50.
Examples of nonstandard works could include:
Please see our T&Cs for further information.
If additional work is identified during installation that wasn't spotted during the online survey, our installation partner will advise and together you will agree on the next steps. If you change your mind at this step, you have the right to cancel your charger purchase and we will provide a full refund.
For more information on cancellation or additional works, please phone our team on 0800 027 0004. Our lines are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
*Please note that it is not our responsibility to reinstate flooring or other building materials after a cable has been laid.
We can accommodate an installation anywhere in the UK (excluding Northern Ireland). However, our standard installation price does not cover rural or island locations and your will require a non-standard installation quote, in line with current T&Cs.
Please call our installation partner on the telephone number shown in the appointment reminder communications that you will have received directly from our installation partner. Or, you can call our customer services team to rearrange your appointment on 0800 027 0004. Our lines are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
