It’s a requirement of ScottishPower, set by Ofgem, that we must visit and carry out meter readings if for any reason our customer has not been able to provide them to us themselves. Having regular meter readings also helps us provide you with timely and accurate bills. Communicating smart meters will send readings automatically and assure accurate bills, why not book a smart meter appointment today.
If you haven’t been providing meter readings or your smart meter is non communicating a meter reader will occasionally come to read your meter.
To reduce the number of visits, make sure you’re regularly submitting meter readings. Or, you could look into getting a smart meter which will send us readings automatically, so you don’t have to.* Find out more about our smart meters.
*There may be times when we are unable to communicate with your smart meter and we may request manual reads or have to rely on an estimate. If you or your smart meter regularly provide us with readings, we’ll only visit when your meter is due a safety inspection. As your energy provider, we make sure your meter meets specific safety obligations set by Ofgem. We conduct safety inspections on all meters to ensure that you’re protected and your property safe. We need to do a in person safety inspection on your meter, even if you have a smart meter or provide us with your meter reads online.
We’re working with a company called Calisen metering services who help us carry out meter readings and meter inspections. We understand that it’s important to know who’s entering your home, so we require all readers to carry an ID badge. Their ID badge will show the company name ‘Calisen Metering’, a photograph, the readers name, expiry date, reference number and Calisen phone number, 0345 612 2121 - which you can call to confirm their identity. To find out more about Calisen metering services visit www.calisen.com
Calisen metering services are used by many energy retailers to carry out meter inspections, so when they’re doing other inspections in your area, they’ll visit you. This means we’re unable to confirm an exact date and time a representative will visit, however we’ll make sure they give you prior notice before arriving at your home. If your meter is outside, they can carry out the inspection without coming into your home. If your meter is inside, they’ll need someone there to let them in for the inspection.
We ask that your meter is clear of obstruction, and if required, keys are made available to the meter readers, making things as quick and simple as possible. Our readers must return every three months until they are given access to the meter, or a reading is provided.
