EV Optimise

What is EV Optimise?

EV Optimise is a smart charging solution designed to optimise your electric vehicle (EV) charging at home and lower your charging costs. You set your smart charging preferences based on when you need your car ready by and how much charge you want. Then we will optimise your charging by tapping into the greenest times when the grid is less in demand. [1]

EV Optimise is exclusively available to ScottishPower customers and only works when you charge at home. EV Optimise can be added to any ScottishPower electricity or dual-fuel tariff (excluding our EV Saver and Heat Saver tariffs).

How does EV Optimise work?

Once you have signed up to EV Optimise, simply set when you need your car charged by and how much charge you need. We’ll sort the rest. We’ll connect to your EV and schedule your car charging based on when energy is cheapest and greenest [1] meaning you can benefit from a reduced charging rate of just 10p per kWh whilst helping to support a greener energy system. The savings from these smart charging sessions will be credited to your electricity bill.

EV Optimise will not interfere when you charge away from home. As this is a beta product, occasional issues may arise, but our support team is always ready to assist you via the 'Help' feature in our app. We also welcome any feedback to help us improve the product - you can do this in the settings page of the EV Optimise dashboard.

Does EV Optimise only work during certain times?

There are no restrictions on when you can charge at our smart charging rate of 10p per kWh [2]. Just make sure smart charging is enabled, your charging preferences have been set and your car is plugged in at home.

How do I sign up for EV Optimise?

To sign up for EV Optimise, you need to be a ScottishPower customer. You can add EV Optimise to any tariff excluding our EV Saver and Heat Saver tariff.

Not a ScottishPower customer yet? You can switch to us easily.

To be eligible for EV Optimise, you need a smart meter, a compatible vehicle and any home EV charger. If you're already a ScottishPower customer, you can find out if your account and home set-up meet the required eligibility by filling out our survey.

If you aren’t a ScottishPower customer, you can check if your car and home set-up could be eligible if you make the switch by filling out this survey.

If you’re eligible, we will send you an email with a link to sign up on the ScottishPower App.

How do I get started with EV Optimise?

To join EV Optimise, you will need to have the ScottishPower App installed. We will get in touch when the product is ready and send you a link to start the onboarding process.

All you need to do is follow the instructions in the app to connect your EV. Once your EV is connected to our system, you’ll need to plug your car in at home so we can confirm your home location, set your charging preferences and then you’re all set. Find out how you can control and monitor your smart charging.

Remember, this is a beta product, so while our technology is still developing, our team is here to help you with any issues.

Are there any other restrictions?

EV Optimise currently doesn’t support households with rooftop solar or residential battery storage, but we are working on improving this. If you completed the eligibility survey , we’ll let you know when solar is compatible with EV Optimise so you can sign up.

Otherwise, there are no restrictions on when you can charge. As long as smart charging is enabled, we will aim to find the cheapest and greenest times to smart charge at the discounted rate of 10p per kwh, day and night [2]. If you disable smart charging within the EV Optimise dashboard, you will not receive the discounted rate for that session. Please note that only electricity used for smart charging your car is eligible for the EV Optimise credit and the rest of your household consumption will be charged at your standard tariff rate.

1

The greenest times of day will be when the carbon intensity of the electricity required to charge your EV is at its lowest. This will vary each day depending on a number of factors, including weather conditions, renewable energy generation and demand on the grid.

2

All electricity used will be charged at your normal unit rate based on your ScottishPower tariff. The credit for your EV smart charging session will appear as credit on your bill.
